Now any Bostonian with a cell phone can receive important city alerts via text message.

#Alert

When needed @BostonTweet will send out an emergency #alert that notifies Bostonians of unexpected events (extreme traffic, urgent MBTA issues, Boston Police safety warnings, etc.) that require caution or changing travel plans. These alerts are very infrequent and are usually sent out 2 or 3 times per week.

#MBTA

#MBTA notifications include information about significant subway delays, MBTA news and the occasional T humor. This notification does NOT include every delay but rather only the significant ones. These messages are sometimes delivered 2 to 3 times per day.
